Equinox Balance Meditation
One of my personal blessings is “By this and every effort may the balance be regained.”
One of my personal blessings is “By this and every effort may the balance be regained.”
This blessing line came to me years ago when I realized that the cycles of myth and time and earth all unify in one sacred rhythm: that of balance.
The intention is always a return to balance, the tales of mythic chaos are not an end in a linear story, but a necessary phase in an endless cyclic where after destruction the sun rises and the fields again are green.
Mythic cyclic consciousness understands there is no end or beginning, no striving for some “perfect” inhabiting of a polarity, but the beautiful dance that is balance.
My prayer is for the balance to be regained, on a micro level, and a macro, to be a part of the rhythm, to sing a soul song in the flow.
Balance does not privilege dark or light, chaos or order, good or bad — the separation of those wholenesses into artificial dualities is a myth of modernity, responsible for much modern overwhelm and apathy.
Balance does not exist in extremes, and that is a helpful consideration for me as I navigate this challenging world. Balance says all is essential in the ongoing story, and with an intention of holding the all as essential, we are closer to the possibility of remembering our part in the whole. When I pray for balance, I pray for equanimity in my actions, and a continual reverence for nature as wisdom keeper.
In this equinox time we celebrate the balance of the sacred Earth on its axis, the dark and light around the globe equal. It is not a moment of stasis, but appreciation of movement. However challenging, change is the rule. However extreme, moderation is the goal.
In this time of balance I feel this prayer sorely needed. In our bodies which struggle daily to maintain many levels of balance, in our interactions with others, in our thoughts and deeds, and in the larger world.
I pray that by my every effort I can support the creation of balance, beginning with my own intentions. I know it is a temporary state — at this time of year, in my body, in my life — but it is one I strive to still. When tipping into dark or light, waxing or waning, in the cycles of our lives we can offer up a promise of mythic, cyclic restoration:
By this and every effort may the balance be regained.
With blessings to you.
